I’m Sina Khajeh Noori, the designer and maker behind Gish, the brand of unique and handcrafted fishing lures. Gish, which means Trevally fish family in my language, including the famous Giant Trevally or GT, holds a special place in my heart as my favorite saltwater fish.
Let me share the story of how Gish came to be. My fishing journey began at the age of six in Iran. Unfortunately, factors like unauthorized nets, electric shocks, explosives, and toxic substances have caused a decline in fish populations in both freshwater and saltwater. This means that as fishermen, we face challenges in finding good fishing spots and often return home with only a few, if any, fish.
Over the years, I tackled these challenges head-on and embarked on solo fishing trips. I spent weeks in one area to understand the fish’s behavior, feeding times, and the best techniques and lures to catch them. This led to me becoming the only international fishing guide in Iran and the sole freshwater fishing guide in the surrounding regions. I also had the privilege of creating fishing documentary films for some famous international TV and companies in this part of the world.
Now, let’s turn our attention to the saltwater realm. Unauthorized nets, trawler ships , and other coastal fishing practices have depleted our inshore fish populations significantly. Being passionate about topwater fishing, I decided to design lures that would improve my chances of catching the target fish, even if it was just a 1% increase. In an area where fish populations are less than 10% compared to places like Indonesia or Australia, NZ , Japan , that 1% makes a big difference to me.
In 2018, I crafted my first topwater lure, the Spy popper. After many trials and errors and fails , I began using it in 2019, and the results were astounding BOOOM . To this day, I have personally caught and released hundreds of small and big GT using my handmade lures. The Spy popper features a transparent and glossy Cup/Head, making it invisible in the water and resembling a natural fish or stickbait and not like a Trumpet unlike other normal poppers. Even a 1% higher chance matters when you’re pursuing your dream fish. I constantly brainstorm ideas to enhance and innovate my lures, always creating new prototypes and testing them during my long trips.
Although my facilities are limited, and I don’t have access to platforms like eBay or Amazon, I strive to create more innovative and useful products using the available materials. I’m delighted that my lures have garnered fans and enthusiasts among topwater fishermen worldwide. Please enjoy exploring my collection of limited handcrafted lures for your fishing expeditions.
Cheers,
Sina K. Noori
